IP cameras are great things. You can use them for internal security, for external security, for monitoring footfall, keeping an eye on employees, and even as webcams. They are extremely flexible and can be turned to almost anything visual.
For instance - consider being able to turn your house lights on an off at will while on vacation? You can do that with an IP camera. Think about being able, in an instant, to see who just knocked on your front door - from your office PC. You could even let them in if you wanted!
IP cameras are versatile; they’re not simply tools for creating video. They are tools designed to fulfil needs; to answer questions and to make our lives easier and more rewarding. Home security is a great use for them, but what else can we do? We’ll be discussing this later.
Are you doing anything with your IP camera yet? Tell us about it. We’d like to know how you are using your IP camera. Post your comments now!

Y-cam, a new IP camera manufacturer, have launched their new network camera the Y-Cam Black. This camera can give you great night vision in 0 lux, or no light at all. Its 30 LEDs illuminate the room up to 12 meters and is perfect for indoor home security.
It also does motion detection, video recording (playable in Windows Media Player), has audio (which is recorded to video) and is wireless B/G capable.
This is a great all-rounder but only for indoor use. The 30 built-in LEDs are unique at this price point - you should be able to pick up a Y-Cam Black for around £140 or less. Plus, it’s a stylish looking thing which won’t be out of place in even the best interiors.

Yes, welcome. Welcome to what we think will become a great place to find out about the latest IP cameras, network cameras and webcams on the market.
We will mainly focus on using IP cameras for your home security and protection - who doesn’t need it - but our expertise is in IP cams in general and we will not shirk from pointing out good deals on some of the more expensive systems, if we think they have a place in the market.
The Whatipcam.com blog will be updated regularly with new IP camera products, industry news and even HOWTO documents with tips and tricks for getting the most out of your IP cameras.
We don’t have a particular preference over manufacturers but our experience is with the big guys Panasonic, Axis, Sony, Mobotix etc, so forgive us if we often big up these brands. Our experience tells us that they are generally better all told, than the smaller manufacturer’s cameras. We are, as ever, quite prepared to be proved wrong!
So check back here regularly, take our RSS feed into your feed reader and become a fried of whatipcam.com. You’ll learn more about IP cameras here, than anywhere else.
